History
The Wenatchee Convention Center was constructed in 1980 through a $2.6 million Economic Development Administration grant. In 1989 the Plaza and Fountain were constructed at the southwest corner of the facility providing the first outdoor amenities at the Convention Center. In 1997, 14,000 square feet of meeting, pre-function and exhibit space were added, as well as an 11,000 square-foot renovation of the facility’s meeting space.
In the winter of 2008 the entire facility underwent a modernization of the audio/video presentation systems and the installation of electronic signage equipment. With this new state-of-the-art system, the entire facility became integrated with digital processing equipment which allows events to overflow into additional rooms and see/hear presentations throughout the facility. Also, brighter, larger video projection systems were installed to provide attendees with a much higher quality visual experience.
In 2009 the lower floor of the facility which includes 12 of the breakout rooms as well as the exhibit hall underwent an architectural renovation with new floor coverings, wall covering, improved lighting and acoustical ceilings. In 2009 and 2010, improvements were also made to the restroom fixtures and furnishings bringing them up to date with modern touch-less amenities.
On the Horizon
Projects slated for the upcoming year include ballroom lighting and ceiling improvements in 2012. Also planned for 2012 is refurbishment of moveable partition walls which will provide improved sound isolation between meeting spaces. In preparation for the deployment of the Stevens Pass Electric Highway initiative, the City has installed a level 2 electric vehicle charging station in 2012.
Future improvements include continued architectural upgrades and more!
